Giving Day at the Compass School

December 20

Giving Day is a cherished school tradition and is a really wonderful day to end school before the holiday break.

Louis Vitale, ‘24

Louis lives in Athens, VT and went to Grafton Elementary in his younger years before coming to Compass. He has now been a student at Compass for six years. Louis is a good-spirited young man who aspires to become a disability advocate and make a comfortable world for everyone.

He felt welcomed in the Compass community despite his own disabilities and has many long-lasting close friendships. Louis likes traveling and playing video games, and is interested in space, technology, and cars.

Each Dec. 20 students, teachers, and staff members present handmade gifts to a person in the Compass community.

Solan Homestead, ‘24

Solan is from Putney and has been learning with us for three years now! Solan used to go to school in Brattleboro, heard about his friends going to The Compass School, tried it and never went back!

Compass supported his aspirations to master computer science and he’s already scoring high in college-level courses. Solan loves to play video games in his free time, and has even made his own! He is always ready to voice his admiration of the teachers who put him so far forward.

Giving Day is also reminder of the philanthropic support students receive from our extended Compass Community.

Jazmine Bullock-Taylor, 8th Grade

Jazzy is from Brattleboro but now lives in Vernon. Previously she attended Vernon Elementary until she was old enough to join her sister at the Compass School, 2023-2024 is her first year.

Jazzy is praised by her peers for her fantastic sense of humor, positive attitude, and unwavering ability to lighten the mood. In the future, Jazzy wants to rescue animals in need.

Jazzy is also a Compass School poet, her “A Place Called Gratitude” is pictured above.
